Does the federal government buy what you sell?
Enter what your business sells and this free tool counts real federal award records to show whether agencies actually buy it — total dollars, number of contracts, and which agencies spend the most in your NAICS code. Contract actions above the micro-purchase threshold — $15,000 as of October 1, 2025 — are reported to FPDS, so the answer comes from the government's own award data, not an estimate. No account required.
How do I find out if the government buys my product or service?
Search federal award data by NAICS code — the industry classification attached to every federal contract. Contract actions above the micro-purchase threshold — $15,000 as of October 1, 2025 — are reported to the Federal Procurement Data System, so past spending in your code is a direct record of whether agencies buy what you sell.
Where does this data come from?
Federal contract award records published through FPDS and USAspending.gov, the government's official spending transparency sources. Industry codes follow the Census Bureau's 2022 NAICS revision.
What if my NAICS code shows little or no spending?
Low spending usually means one of three things: you picked too narrow a code, your buyers purchase under a different code than you'd expect, or the demand is genuinely at state and local level instead. Try adjacent codes before concluding there is no market.
Does high spending in my NAICS code mean I can win work?
Not on its own. High spending shows the market exists; whether you can win depends on set-asides, incumbents, and contract vehicles. Purchases between $15,000 and the $350,000 simplified acquisition threshold are generally reserved for small businesses, which is where new entrants have the best odds.
How much of federal spending goes to small businesses?
The statutory government-wide goal is 23% of prime contract dollars. The SBA's FY25 Scorecard reported roughly 28% — about $179 billion — actually awarded to small businesses.
Is this the same as USAspending.gov?
It uses the same underlying federal award data, presented as a direct yes/no demand answer for one industry rather than a general-purpose spending portal. USAspending remains the authoritative source for the full dataset.
